James Austin Company Settles For $3,000
In August 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with James Austin Company, with its principal location in Mars, Pennsylvania, in the amount of $3,000 for the company’s violations of CARB’s air quality regulations.
CARB staff conducted an investigation that revealed James Austin Company sold, supplied, offered for sale and/or manufactured for use in California a nonaerosol general purpose cleaner containing a concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOC) exceeding the standard specified in the Consumer Products Regulation (Cal. Code Regs., tit.17, § 94507 et. seq.). The VOC violation resulted in 0.18 tons of excess VOC emissions.
The $3,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. James Austin Company fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and ceased sale of the noncompliant product in California.
