Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. Settles For $6,000
In May 2022, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Monterey Mushrooms, Inc., with its principal location in Watsonville, California, reached a settlement agreement in the amount of $6,000 for the company’s failure to comply with CARB’s Regulation for the Management of High Global Warming Potential Refrigerants for Stationary Sources (RMP Regulation).
Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. owns and operates a mushroom farm that operates several medium-sized refrigeration systems, with the greatest system having a full charge greater than 200 but less than 2,000 pounds of a high global warming potential refrigerant. The systems are subject to the RMP Regulation.
In 2019, Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. was referred to the Enforcement Division for enforcement action due to lack of records as specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95386(a). The investigation identified one year of violation for failure to perform quarterly leak inspections.
Monterey Mushrooms, Inc. came into compliance quickly, put into place policies and procedures to prevent similar issues in the future, and fully cooperated with the investigation. The total penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
