SACRAMENTO - The Air Resources Board (CARB) has received Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.’s (VW) draft recall plan for 3.0 liter diesel passenger cars.
VW has stated this plan is intended to remedy the presence of one or more defeat devices in 2009-2016 model year 3.0 liter diesel vehicles. VW agrees these devices resulted in excess emissions and other instances of noncompliance in the affected vehicles.
CARB will respond following a thorough and complete review to make sure the plan addresses the presence of the illegal defeat device and follows the necessary environmental, vehicle and public health and safety regulation.
CARB is the lead agency in California for cleaning up the air and fighting climate change to attain and maintain health-based air quality standards. Its mission is to promote and protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through the effective reduction of air and climate pollutants while recognizing and considering effects on the economy.
