RAIN FOR RENT SETTLES EMISSIONS CASE WITH CARB FOR $12,625
In October 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Rain for Rent, a trade name of Western Oilfields Supply Company, for violating CARB’s air quality regulations. Rain for Rent is based in Bakersfield, California, and provides temporary liquid handling solutions. The company self-disclosed the violations to CARB in January 2021, which involved failure to notify and report the use of Tier 4 flexibility engines as replacements for original off-road compression-ignition engines. The company also did not correctly label the replacement engines. These violations affected 25 California engines in total.
Of the total assessed civil penalty of $12,625, or $505 per engine, $6,313 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. The remaining amount of $6,312 will fund a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) entitled “Placer County Community Based SEP – Phase 2,” that will install advanced air filtration systems in facilities within Placer County. In addition, Rain for Rent will voluntarily remove the violative engines from further operation in California. The company fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter.
