Solid Wastes of Willits, Inc. Case Settles for $15,375
Solid Wastes of Willits, Inc. is a fully integrated solid waste company based in Mendocino County, California. In December 2011, Solid Wastes of Willits, Inc. agreed to pay $15,375.00 in penalties; $11,531.25 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $3,843.75 to the Peralta Community College District for violating air quality regulations.
An investigation by the ARB showed that Solid Wastes of Willits, Inc. failed to comply with the solid waste collection vehicle rule by neglecting to install legally required emission-reduction devices by applicable compliance dates. Solid Wastes of Willits, Inc. also failed to properly self-inspect their diesel vehicles to assure that vehicles met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and Solid Waste Collection Vehicle Program (SWCV). To settle the case Solid Wastes of Willits, Inc. agreed to the $15,375.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and SWCV programs in addition to other ARB programs.
