Santana Paving and Grading, Inc. Case Settles for $7,000
In June 2015, Santana Paving and Grading, Inc. paid $7,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $5,250.00 went to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,750.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Santana Paving and Grading, Inc. failed to properly self-inspect its diesel trucks, as required by Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), failed to meet the Statewide Truck and Bus (STB) requirements for the NOx Exempt Area Compliance Schedule and failed to properly report vehicles. ARB documented violations as they related to PSIP and the STB regulation. To settle the case, Santana Paving and Grading, Inc. agreed to the $7,000.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, STB and other ARB programs.
