San Mateo County Transit District Case Settles for $5,000
In September 2010, San Mateo County Transit District agreed to pay $5,000 in penalties; $3,750 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and $1,250 to Peralta Community College District, for violating air quality regulations. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that San Mateo County Transit District failed to properly retrofit or replace several of their diesel transit buses to assure the transit buses met state smoke emission standards for particulate materials emitted. ARB documented violations as they related to the Transit Fleet Vehicle Program (TFV). To settle the case, San Mateo County Transit District agreed to the $5,000 penalty and to comply with the TFV and other ARB programs.
