Quirarte's Imports, Inc. Case Settles for $2,700.00
In July 2013, Quirarte’s Imports, Inc. agreed to pay the penalty amount of $2,700.00 for violating air quality regulations: $2,575.00 will be paid to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $125.00 will be paid to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Quirarte’s Imports, Inc. failed to properly self-inspect one of their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards; failed to ensure all engines of their fleet vehicles had a properly affixed Emission Control Label; and failed to timely report all required information for all vehicles in the fleet for which they elected to utilize the compliance options/credits/provisions of the Truck & Bus Regulation. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), Emission Control Label (ECL), and the Truck & Bus regulation. To settle the case, Quirarte’s Imports, Inc. agreed to the $2,700.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, ECL, Truck & Bus, and other ARB programs.
