Areas of the State that are designated as Nonattainment for one or more National Ambient Air Quality Standards are required under the federal Clean Air Act to develop plans meeting specific requirements depending on the severity of the pollution problem. Attainment plans and and corresponding documents are available on CARB's website for the following areas:
- Butte County
- Coachella Valley
- Eastern Kern County
- Great Basin (includes Owens Valley, Coso Junction, Mono Basin, and Mammoth Lakes nonattainment areas)
- Imperial County
- Mariposa County
- Northern Sierra
- Sacramento Region (El Dorado AQMD, Feather River AQMD, Placer County APCD, Sacramento Metropolitan AQMD, and Yolo-Solano AQMD)
- San Diego County
- San Francisco Bay Area
- San Joaquin Valley

- South Coast
- Ventura County
