Northern Tool & Equipment Company, Inc. Case Settles for $23,625.00
In January 2013, Northern Tool & Equipment Company (Northern) agreed to pay $23,625.00 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund for violating air quality regulations. An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Northern failed to comply with the small off-road engine regulation by neglecting to certify evaporative emissions components prior to import and sale in California. Although all units sold did receive ARB executive orders, violations are due to sales that occurred prior to their issuance. To settle the case, Northern agreed to the $23,625.00 penalty and that it will not acquire, offer for sale or sell new, non-California certified engines for use or registration in California. This settlement takes into consideration that Northern was cooperative throughout the enforcement process and does not have a history of violations.
