Who we are
California Air Resources Board (CARB) is a state agency that protects people from the harmful effects of air pollution and climate change. Reducing exposure to toxic air pollutants is one of our core responsibilities.
Why We Are Taking Action
Even with major progress, toxic air pollution remains a serious public health issue. • Community advocacy, new science, and stronger reporting rules are revealing toxic chemicals and exposure risks we didn’t previously know about. • Communities already burdened by pollution need stronger, more coordinated protection. • We are responding with a long‑term initiative that puts public health and equity first.
Our Vision and Goals
The Roadmap will guide how CARB: • Identifies and focuses on toxics that pose the greatest health risks • Cuts emissions in ways that lead to real, measurable improvements • Works directly with communities and learns from their experiences • Uses the best available data and science to make decisions • Protects public health for current and future generations

This requires strong collaboration, including: • Ongoing, meaningful engagement with Tribal governments, community groups, air districts, other state agencies, industry, and the general public • Input on how to communicate effectively with your community.
