Dawn Ortiz-Legg

Appointed February 2025 by Governor Gavin Newsom
Term ends December 31, 2028
Dawn Ortiz-Legg champions diverse perspectives along with a practical approach to governance. This comes from a multicultural background and three decades of private sector experience.
With degrees from Pepperdine University and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Ortiz-Legg conducted international business for two decades, and in recent years, helped implement California's renewable energy policy, supporting the creation of 2GW of utility scale solar projects. She then managed gas and electric transmission and distribution right of way access for Pacific Gas & Electric.
Appointed by Governor Newsom to the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors in 2020, she became the first Latina/Indigenous person elected to the board in June 2022 and ran unopposed in 2024.
As a County Supervisor, she represents California’s only nuclear power plant Diablo Canyon, as well as the Arroyo Grande Oil Fields. Her continuous goal is to encourage a better understanding of the “give and take” realities of securing reliable energy generation and delivery to users.
In 2025, Ortiz-Legg is Chair of the Board of Supervisors, and represents San Luis Obispo County as Chair of First 5, Vice-President of Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) Policy Board, LAFCO, Air Pollution Control District, San Luis Obispo Council of Governments and the San Luis Valley Groundwater Stakeholder group. She participates in the county’s bi-partisan Offshore Wind Task Force.
Ortiz-Legg is 2025-2027 Chairperson for the Latino Caucus of California Counties and on the Parks California Advisory Board.
