Shewak Lajwanti Home Fashions, Inc. Settles For $28,800
In March 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Shewak Lajwanti Home Fashions, Inc. (SLHF) of Vernon, California reached a settlement for violation of CARB’s Regulation for Reducing Emissions from Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation), as specified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, sections 94507 et seq.
An investigation by CARB staff revealed that SLHF sold, supplied, and offered for sale in California, aerosol Odor Remover/Eliminator products that were not in compliance with CARB’s Consumer Products Regulation. Their products “Beyond Clean Disinfectant Spray” and “Clean Mist Multi Purpose Spray”contained concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that exceeded the standards specified in the California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94509(a). The violation contributed to 2.4 tons of excess VOC emissions in the Odor Remover/Eliminator (aerosol) category over a period of two years.
SLHF fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter and is no longer manufacturing or selling Beyond Clean Disinfectant Spray or Clean Mist Multi Purpose Spray. The full penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
