Yanmar Power Technology Co., Ltd. Settles For $16,196,920
In January 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a mutual settlement with Yanmar Power Technology Co. Ltd. (Yanmar) for the company’s violations of California’s Off-Road Compression-Ignition Engines and Equipment Regulation (Off-Road CI Regulation) under California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2420-2427, and the Off-Road Large Spark-Ignition Engines Regulation (LSIE Regulation), under California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2430-2439.
The associated Off-Road CI engine emission violations are for the incomplete reporting of an auxiliary emission control device and the use of incorrect test procedures for Yanmar engines used in transport refrigeration units, while the LSIE violations are for the production of engines that were not representative of the test engine used to obtain emissions certification from CARB.
Yanmar fully cooperated with CARB’s investigation and had also self-disclosed the LSIE violations voluntarily. The total assessed civil penalty of $16,196,920 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund to provide funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
