Skyway Trucking School, Inc. Settles for $8,600
In December 2023, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Skyway Trucking School, Inc. for the company’s violation of CARB’s air quality regulations.
An investigation by CARB showed that Skyway Trucking School, Inc. (1) failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks, as required by the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) Regulation; (2) failed to have a legible emission control label attached to the engine for its fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and as required by the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection Program (HDVIP) Regulation; and (3) and operated vehicles with the malfunction indicated light illuminated in violation of the requirements of the Heavy Duty Inspection and Maintenance Program. CARB documented violations as they related to the PSIP, as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2190 et seq.; the HDVIP Regulation, under California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2183-2189; and the HD I/M Regulation under California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2195 to 2199.1 et seq.
Terms of the settlement include a requirement that Skyway Trucking School, Inc. attend a smoke-test training course, submit PSIP tests for the entire applicable fleet for calendar years 2023 and 2024, and make applicable repairs to come into compliance with the HD I/M Regulation, HDVIP Regulation, PSIP Regulation, and other CARB regulations going forward. Skyway Trucking School, Inc. fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter. The full settlement amount of $8,600 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
