Eric Guerra

Eric Guerra was appointed to the California Air Resources Board by Governor Gavin Newsom in January 2023. He has served as a Sacramento City Councilmember for District 6 since 2015 and is the immediate past chair for the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District.
Councilmember Guerra grew up working as a farmworker in the agricultural fields of California. He attended and graduated from California State University, Sacramento, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Master of Public Policy and Administration and completed Fellowship in the Senate Fellowship Program. While at Sacramento State, Councilmember Guerra developed his passion for helping others and began his work to make a difference in people’s lives through policy.
With over 20 years of experience in the California State Legislature, Eric knows what it takes to find consensus among a broad coalition of people. In his role on the California Air Resources Board of Directors, Eric is committed to improving air quality, supporting and uplifting local communities and economies, protecting public health, and promoting the clean energy transition. As a bike enthusiast, he is particularly committed to pursuing bike and pedestrian safety on local Sacramento roads.
Councilmember Guerra is devoted and proud to serve the community that he has called home for nearly 30 years. He has served the community in several different capacities, including as a Governor’s appointee on the CSU Board of Trustees, chair of the Sacramento County Planning Commission, and president of the Sacramento State Alumni Association.
