Navistar, Inc. f/k/a International Truck & Engine Corporation Case Settles for $250,000
In May 2015, Navistar, Inc. agreed to pay $250,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulation: $187,500.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $62,500.00 will go to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District for the School Bus and Diesel Emission Reduction Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP).
Navistar, Inc. failed to comply with the in-use compliance requirements of the Verification Procedure (California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2700-2711) for the DPXTM Catalyzed Soot Filter System. The Verification Procedure requires two phases of in-use compliance testing for each Verified Diesel Emission Control Strategy family (including those that are no longer verified) after a certain number of units are sold or leased in the California market. After each phase of testing is completed, the results must be submitted to the Executive Officer in the form of an in-use compliance report. ARB documented violations as they related to the Verification Procedure. To settle the case, Navistar, Inc. agreed to the $250,000.00 penalty and to comply with the in-use compliance requirements.
