$3,000 in Fines Paid by Lowe's

On October 30, 2006, Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse (HIW) sold non-complying portable fuel containers online.  After an investigation of the violation of the Portable Fuel Containers and Spouts Regulations, an NOV was issued on May 24, 2007.  Lowe’s HIW, Inc. indicated that the violations resulted from a computer system glitch in their sales-restrictions databases, which allowed non-complying products to be sold online to California consumers.  They have subsequently corrected the glitch.  On August 29, 2007, a settlement agreement was executed for $3,000.
