Griffin Brothers Case Settles for $4,500
During a routine inspection of a retail outlet in California, a California Air Resources Board (CARB) inspector obtained a sample of Jolt, a general purpose degreaser manufactured by Griffin Brothers of Albany, Oregon. CARB’s laboratory determined that Jolt contained volatile organic compound (VOC) content that exceeded the 0.5 percent limit for general purpose degreaser as stated in the Consumer Products Regulation, title 17, California Code of Regulations, section 94509(a). California sales of Jolt resulted in 160 pounds of excess VOC emissions released into the atmosphere. Griffin Brothers has paid a penalty of $4,500 to settle the following violations: excess VOC emissions and lack of the manufacturing date. Griffin Brothers has brought the product into compliance.
