Subject InventWood Public Comments to CARB on Embodied Carbon Framework Message To the California Air Resources Board: InventWood commends CARB for its leadership in developing a robust framework to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from building materials. The March 13, 2025 workshop reflects an essential step forward in building a cleaner, more sustainable future for California's built environment. We are encouraged by CARB’s commitment to establishing data-driven requirements for manufacturer and project-level reporting, baseline estimation, and emissions accounting. As an advanced wood materials innovator and recent recipient of a U.S. Department of Energy scale-up grant, InventWood strongly supports this initiative and the broader effort to reduce embodied carbon in construction. California is uniquely positioned to catalyze a vibrant wood products innovation marketplace that offers durable, low-carbon alternatives to carbon-intensive materials like steel and concrete by recognizing and rewarding products that utilize reclaimed and sustainably grown renewable U.S. wood resources while delivering exceptional performance. We look forward to continued engagement. We hope the finalized framework will include clear pathways for adopting emerging low-embodied-carbon materials, such as densified wood technologies, that meet California’s ambitious climate, fire resilience, and infrastructure goals.
