Empire Transportation Services, Inc. Case Settles for $6,300
In October 2014, Empire Transportation Services, Inc. agreed to pay $6,300.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $4,725.00 went to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,575.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Empire Transportation Services, Inc. failed to inspect their vehicles to assure that the Emission Control Labels (ECL) were installed and legible and failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and ECL regulation. To settle the case, Empire Transportation Services, Inc. agreed to the $6,300.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, ECL and other ARB programs.
