City of Calexico Case Settles for $6,900
In July 2014, the City of Calexico agreed to pay $6,900.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $5,175.00 will be paid to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; and $1,725.00 will be paid to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District for the Scholl Bus and Diesel Emission Reduction Supplemental Environmental Project to fund the purchase of diesel particulate filters for school buses.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that The City of Calexico failed to bring the public agency utility (PAU) in compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards and failed to properly self-inspect their diesel vehicles to assure that each met state smoke emission and engine labeling standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), Emission Control Label Regulation (ECL), and PAU Toxic Air Control Measure regulation. To settle the case, The City of Calexico agreed to the $6,900.00 penalty and to comply with the PAU, PSIP, ECL, and programs.
