Chevron Products Company, a division of Chevron USA, Inc. Case Settles for $13,000
In May 2015 Chevron Products Company, a division of Chevron USA, Inc., paid $13,000 in penalties for supplying gasoline in violation of the California Reformulated Gasoline regulation. Chevron self-reported that on June 8th and 9th, 2012 their Richmond terminal incorrectly loaded five cargo tanks of California gasoline in excess of the 10.0 percent maximum ethanol content allowed by the regulation. The error occurred as a result of a loading arm at the terminal dispensing fewer gallons of CARBOB than indicated by the meter. The noncompliant products were delivered to five service stations. Three service stations discovered the issue and notified Chevron. Upon testing and confirmation by Chevron, sales were stopped and CARBOB was delivered to the stations to bring the ethanol content down to 10.0 percent. For the remaining two stations, the product had already been sold before corrective action was possible. The civil penalty was paid into two funds, with $9,750 to the California Air Pollution Control Fund and the remaining $3,250 to the San Joaquin Air Pollution Control District to fund the retrofits of California school buses with diesel particulate filters.
