California Cascade Industries Case Settles for $7,050.00
In November 2012, California Cascade Industries (California Cascade) agreed to pay $7,050.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $5,287.50 goes to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,762.50 goes to Peralta Community College District to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that California Cascade (1) failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards; (2) failed to provide disclosure of the Statewide Truck and Bus Regulation on the bills of sale of three heavy duty vehicles. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and Statewide Truck and Bus regulation. To settle the case, California Cascade agreed to the $7,050.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP, Truck and Bus, and other ARB programs.
