Boart Longyear Company Case Settles for $7,500
In May 2014, Boart Longyear Company (BLY) paid $7,500.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $5,625.00 went to the California Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $1,875.00 went to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that BLY failed to properly self-inspect one of their diesel trucks to assure the truck met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and the In-Use Off-Road Diesel-Fueled Fleets Air Toxic Control Measure regulation (Off-Road). To settle the case, BLY agreed to the $7,500.00 penalty and to comply with the PSIP and Off-Road regulations.
