California’s leadership in reducing vehicle emissions is more critical than ever and I’m writing to ensure standards in the California Air Resource Board’s (CARB) Drive Forward Light-Duty Vehicle Program are strong enough to protect our air quality and keep California on track to meet its 2045 climate goal. This year, nearly half of the counties in California received Fs on their air quality report card from the American Lung Association. That’s why it is so important that California set tougher restrictions on smog causing emissions like NOx and NMOG. This program should also encourage clean and zero-emission vehicle adoption throughout California. An increase in zero-emission vehicles could improve air quality and save California $119 billion in health costs, prevent over 10,000 premature deaths, and avoid over 1.5 million lost workdays due to air pollution-related illnesses. California must continue to lead the way by investing in a cleaner future. I urge you to keep California on track toward zero-emissions and better air quality for all.
