I would like to request additional transparency and ethical review regarding the use of animal fats as a feedstock in Tier 2 Pathway B092102. While I understand that biodiesel can be produced from a variety of waste streams, the sourcing of animal fats raises important questions about: - Animal welfare and ethical sourcing standards - Traceability of supply chains, including whether the fats originate from by‑products or from practices that may incentivize additional animal processing - Environmental impacts of rendering operations, which can vary widely depending on energy use and waste handling - Availability of alternative waste‑based feed stocks (e.g., used cooking oil) that may offer similar or lower carbon intensity without the same ethical concerns I respectfully request that CARB ensure that pathways involving animal fats include clear disclosure of sourcing practices, verification mechanisms, and any safeguards that prevent unintended incentives for increased animal agriculture or rendering. Encouraging greater reliance on waste‑based, non‑animal feed stocks may better align with California’s environmental and ethical goals while still supporting LCFS carbon‑reduction targets. Thank you for considering this comment. Simona Vanecek With the assistance from Microsoft Co-Pilot and from Google LLM(s) File Upload (i.e., Attachments): N/A N/A
