The proposed revised Community Air Protection Incentives Guidelines have been updated with a variety of new project category chapters, based off new incentives developed to address strategies identified in Board-approved Community Emissions Reduction Programs developed by air districts, in partnership with their communities, according to AB 617.
These draft revised Guidelines have been posted for a 30-day public comment period leading up to a virtual public workshop to discuss and finalize them on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please see the public meeting announcement for details on how to attend. Comments, suggestions, or questions may be provided at the public workshop, or they may be provided at any time directly to Community Air Protection Incentives staff.
These Guidelines currently provide eligibility for incentives to reduce hexavalent chromium emissions from chrome plating activities, a suite of project types to reduce exposure at sensitive receptors, and a framework allowing air districts, in collaboration with their communities, to create new kinds of incentives to address other stationary sources of pollution or sources identified in Community Emissions Reduction Programs created per the requirements of AB 617. Staff have revised these proposed guidelines to add criteria for the following new kinds of incentives:
Local agency partnerships.
Dial-a-ride transit vehicle replacements.
Community greening and vegetative barrier projects.
Incentives for alternatives to agricultural open burning.
Low dust nut harvester replacements.
Staff will continue to update these Guidelines with new project categories, to be responsive to the needs of the most heavily impacted communities across the State.
