California Air Resources Board

The 2022 Scoping Plan Update will assess progress towards achieving the Senate Bill 32 (SB 32) 2030 target and lay out a path to achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2045. Achieving carbon neutrality will require the State to consider greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and sinks from natural and working lands (NWL). With extensive input from sister agencies, the Environmental Justice Advisory Committee, and the public, CARB developed and is modeling scenarios to illustrate the effectiveness of deployment of different technologies and clean energy in achieving the state’s climate goals.  In a parallel effort CARB developed and is modeling various land management scenarios to help develop targets for California’s NWLs.  Initial modeling results from both efforts will be presented at this workshop.

Researchers from the University of California at Santa Barbara and Rhodium will present work on developing a climate vulnerability metric for California. This project aims to identify geographic regions of the State that face disproportionate impacts from climate change by developing a comprehensive measure of overall vulnerability and is part of emerging work to develop an updated Social Cost of Carbon value. This workshop will inform the 2022 Scoping Plan Update. Stakeholder input and feedback are encouraged.
