On July 21, 2016, CARB adopted the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District 2016 Plan for the 2008 8-Hour Ozone Standard (2016 Ozone Plan). The 2016 Ozone Plan sets out the strategy to attain the federal 2008 75 parts per billion 8-hour ozone standard by 2031. Later, some elements in the 2016 Ozone Plan required updates in response to court decisions. On October 25, 2018, CARB adopted the2018 Updates to the California State Implementation Plan(2018 SIP Update) to update SIP elements as needed for nonattainment areas throughout the State, including the San Joaquin Valley. On March 27, 2025, CARB adopted updates to the motor vehicle emission budgets for the San Joaquin Valley for the 75 parts per billion ozone standard.
