CARB has been involved in air related emergencies since 1991; however, in 2009, an official emergency response program was assembled to address the mounting concern for public health in the wake of wildfires and other air emergencies.

At the request of California Air districts, CARB performs air monitoring for any emergency involving the release of a hazardous airborne contaminant once a local agency has exhausted its resources to protect public health or the environment. CARB can provide state-level support for air contaminant monitoring, sampling, analysis, and dispersion modeling.
The CalOES Emergency Services Contact List provides names and contact information for each counties' Emergency Service Coordinator. When requesting emergency air monitoring equipment from CARB contact the Emergency Service Coordinator for assistance. The coordinator can guide you through the mission tasking process to request services from CARB.
