LS Mtron, Ltd. Settles For $236,100
In September 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with LS Mtron, Ltd. (LS Mtron), with its principal location in Anyang, South Korea, in the amount of $236,100 for violation of CARB’s Off-Road Compression-Ignition Engines and Equipment Regulation (Off-Road CI Regulation), as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2420-2427.
Of the total amount, $118,050 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. The remaining amount of $118,050 will fund the Supplemental Environment Project (SEP) entitled Residential Air Filtration Program with San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD). This SEP provides free in-home air filtration units to eligible residents in disadvantaged communities of the SJVAPCD. The air filtration units protect public health by providing eligible residence access to clean indoor air in the event of bad air quality days or wildfire emergencies.
LS Mtron voluntarily disclosed the omission of two Auxiliary Emission Control Devices (AECD) in certification applications for off-road compression-ignition engines. To settle the case, LS Mtron agreed to the penalty of $150 per violation for a total of $236,100. Terms of the settlement include a requirement for LS Mtron to conduct more thorough discussions with CARB on any future engine certification efforts to ensure all AECDs are declared. Through the company’s diligence and cooperation with CARB, all certification documentation has been brought into compliance.
