California Air Resources Board

CARB adopted the regulation, “Fuel Sulfur and Other Operational Requirements for Ocean-Going Vessels within California Waters and 24 Nautical Miles of the California Baseline” on July 24, 2008. This regulation is designed reduce particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen, and sulfur oxide emissions from ocean-going vessels; reductions that are necessary to improve air quality and public health in California.
