ARB is the primary state agency responsible for actions to protect public health from harmful effects of air pollution. As such, CARB is dedicated to reducing Californian's exposure to pollutants by identifying and mitigating sources of air pollution, including from manufacturing and commercial activities, motor vehicles, and from consumer products that release chemicals into the air during use.
CARB's Indoor Air Quality program focuses research efforts on identifying and reducing exposures to air pollutants in indoor air, such as from cooking, while travelling in the car or school bus, in the school or day-care setting, and from consumer products that release ozone. Recent research on indoor air quality issues identified fiberglass HVAC filters as a source of formaldehyde, found harmful levels of ozone emitted from consumer products, and evaluated the amount of ozone emitted from in-duct air cleaning devices.
