California Air Resources Board

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will host a seminar on new research that assesses progress, barriers, and opportunities for enhanced Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) readiness across local jurisdictions in California. Researchers from UC Merced will share findings on California’s current progress with ZEV uptake and readiness, where gaps and opportunities remain, and the challenges communities and jurisdictions face. Researchers will also share a new framework that suggests indicators designed to help communities across California assess their ZEV readiness.

Background

Since 1990, CARB's ZEV Regulation has required automakers to deliver zero-emission vehicles, like electric-, plug-in hybrid-electric, and fuel-cell electric vehicles, to the California market. ZEV Readiness is a component of CARB’s strategy to achieve statewide air pollution and climate goals. To be ZEV Ready, a local jurisdiction will have (and continue to plan for) appropriate refueling infrastructure, accessible clean mobility, supportive policies and programs, outreach and education, and a skilled workforce.
