The Sustainable Transportation Equity Project (STEP) funds a variety of clean transportation and supporting projects, such as public transit and shared mobility services, active transportation infrastructure, land use planning and housing policy, workforce development, and clean transportation planning and education. Funded projects work together within low-income and disadvantaged communities to increase transportation equity. Funded projects are designed and implemented with community residents to address community needs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle miles traveled while increasing access to key destinations and services.

FY 2022-23 RFA Results

CARB awarded $32.65 million to fund planning, clean transportation, and supporting projects for multiple grantees across the state through the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Planning and Capacity Building (Planning), Clean Mobility in Schools (CMIS), and the Sustainable Transportation Equity Project (STEP) Request for Applications (RFA). 

CARB received 27 Full Phase applications, requesting $123.6M for CMIS/STEP funding and $4.5M for Planning funding.
