California Air Resources Board

On behalf of Californians Against Waste, we support the Air Resources Board adding landfills as a critical component of this roadmap, given that landfills are a significant source of toxic air contaminants and California communities have been devastated by the impacts of landfill emissions. Landfills emit toxic pollutants and volatile organic compounds, including benzene, vinyl chloride, and other toxic compounds, that pose serious risks to public health, particularly for the communities located near landfills. Additionally, CARB will be collecting new data through their recently updated Landfill Methane Regulation that offers a clear opportunity for coordination.
