Cold Star Equipment, Inc. Case Settles for $25,000
Cold Star Equipment, Inc. will pay $25,000.00 in penalties for violating air quality regulations: $18,750.00 will go to the Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality; $6,250.00 will go to the Peralta Colleges Foundation to fund emission education classes conducted by participating California community colleges, under the California Council for Diesel Education and Technology (CCDET) program. This settlement was reached in May 2017.
An investigation by the Air Resources Board (ARB) showed that Cold Star Equipment, Inc. failed to bring one of its Transport Refrigeration Units (TRU) into compliance with the applicable in-use performance standards, failed to bring nine of its heavy-duty diesel trucks to meet Particulate Matter Best Available Control Technology requirements, and failed to properly self-inspect their diesel trucks to assure the trucks met state smoke emission standards. ARB documented violations as they related to the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP), the TRU Airborne Toxic Control Measure, and the Truck and Bus (TB) Regulation. To settle the case, Cold Star Equipment, Inc. agreed to the $25,000.00 penalty and to comply with PSIP, TRU, TB, and other ARB programs.
