Cobalt Boats, LLC Settles For $1,380,000
In December 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Cobalt Boats, LLC, with its principal location in Neodesha, Kansas. Prior to receiving a CARB Executive Order, Cobalt Boats, LLC manufactured for sale, sold, and introduced into commerce 295 noncompliant marine vessels into California in violation of CARB’s Evaporative Emissions Requirements for Spark-Ignition Marine Watercraft with Gasoline-Fueled Engines Regulation (SIMW Evaporative Regulation), under California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2850-2869.
To settle the case, Cobalt Boats, LLC agreed to the per unit penalty of approximately $4,678 per violation for a total settlement of $1,380,000. Of this amount, the civil penalty of $690,000 will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality. The remaining $690,000 will fund a Supplemental Environmental Project in San Bernardino titled, El Sol Environmental Community Health Worker Learning HUB.
Terms of the settlement include a requirement that Cobalt Boats, LLC comply with all CARB air quality regulations going forward. Cobalt Boats, LLC fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter.
