Burten Leather and Findings Settles For $3,000
In September 2024, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement with Burten Leather and Findings (Burten), with its principal location in Los Angeles, California, for the company’s violation of the Regulation for Reducing Emissions from Consumer Products (Consumer Products Regulation), as codified in California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 94500 et seq.
An investigation conducted by CARB staff revealed that Burten failed to meet the volatile organic compound (VOC) limit requirements for a nonaerosol fabric protectant product (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 17, § 94500 et seq.).
Burten fully cooperated with CARB to resolve this matter. Terms of the settlement include a requirement for Burten to increase scrutiny of the compliance of their products, and to comply with all other CARB regulations going forward. The total penalty amount will be deposited into CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund, which provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
