How to Determine Engine Model Year

In reviewing the Drayage Truck Regulation (DTR) information, we have identified a common mistake in the reporting of truck and engine information. Some truck and engine model years are being reported as the same year (i.e., 2007 truck MY and 2007 engine MY). Generally, the engine model year falls one year behind the truck.
Owners of Drayage Trucks with Engine Model Year 2007 or newer are fully compliant until December 31, 2022 for ports and rail yards in California. Simply register with the DTR for port or rail yard entry. Starting January 1, 2023, trucks must have 2010 Model Year or newer engine to continue entering ports and rail yards.
We are requesting that truck owners verify the engine model years submitted to the DTR by reading the year stamped on the truck's Emission Control Label (ECL) located on the engine. This document will assist truck owners in verifying the engine model year of their truck to ensure that it complies with the Drayage Truck Regulation.
