SACRAMENTO – The California Air Resources Board (CARB) reached a settlement agreement with several companies operating under Republic Services Inc. (aka the Companies) for $211,250 for violations of CARB’s air quality regulations.

An investigation by CARB showed that the Companies had failed to: (1) properly self-inspect their diesel trucks, as required by the PSIP; (2) bring their trucks into compliance as outlined in the Truck and Bus Regulation; (3) bring their trucks into compliance by the deadlines in the Solid Waste Collection Vehicles Regulation, and (4) report changes to CARB as required by the In-Use Off-Road Diesel-Fueled Fleets Regulation.

“CARB relentlessly pursues companies that disregard air pollution regulations and requirements designed to protect public health,” said CARB’s Chief of Enforcement Todd Sax. “It is vitally important that trucks operating in California comply with those regulations, especially for communities hardest hit by air pollution as a result of heavy truck traffic.” 

The $211,250 settlement amount will go to CARB’s Air Pollution Control Fund that provides funding for projects and research to improve California's air quality.
