About
As outlined in the 2020 Mobile Source Strategy and the 2022 State Strategy for the State Implementation Plan, CARB is exploring strategies to reduce emissions associated with aircraft operations while on the ground at airports. Currently, these strategies include reduced or zero-emission taxiing, derated takeoffs, and strategics to minimize use of auxiliary power units (APU) while aircraft are on the ground. The transition to zero-emission aircraft ground operations would provide necessary emissions reductions to attain federal air quality standards, lower health risk to airport workers and nearby communities, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from airport operations.
