California Clean Construction
The 2022 State Strategy for the State Implementation Plan (SIP) included an array of proposed measures to reduce emissions from oxides of nitrogen and diesel particulate matter. These measures are needed for the state to meet the federal ambient air quality standards. One of the measures is the Clean Off-Road Fleet Recognition Program, which we are now calling the California Clean Construction Program.
The California Clean Construction program will provide a methodology for awarding bodies including policymakers, state and local government, and other interested parties to establish guidelines for contracting criteria that can achieve their environmental policy goals. By adopting the California Clean Construction program into construction project conditions, awarding bodies encourage the utilization of the cleanest technologies benefitting the project workers, equipment operators, neighboring communities and likely contributing to market growth of zero-emission construction equipment.
Additionally, the California Clean Construction program may also be considered as a potential mitigation measure to help awarding bodies pursue compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) by encouraging environmentally responsible construction projects that minimize project associated diesel emissions.
